Treat Chromium in your waterOVERVIEW AND TREATMENT OPTIONS:

Chromium, as a trivalent (+3) chromium, is a trace element that is naturally present in many foods we consume and also available as a dietary supplement.  But chromium also exists as a hexavalent (+6) chromium, a toxic by-product of stainless steel and other manufacturing processes.  Chromium 6, also called the “Erin Brockovich Chemical”,  is known to cause cancer and usually effects the skin & eyes, kidneys, liver, and respiratory system.

Chromium is present in many foods, including meats, fruits & vegetables, grain products, nuts & spices, brewer’s yeast, and even wine & beer.  The amounts of chromium in these foods vary widely depending on local soil and water conditions as well as agricultural and manufacturing processes used to produce them.

There is no established safety standard by the US Environmental Protection Agency.  The MCL is currently set at 0.10 ppm with California setting their standards at 0.1 ppb. only going to show that no one is certain what the safe level is for Chromium 6.

Reverse Osmosis is the best known approach to removing Chromium 6 from your drinking water.  The decision is to remove at the POINT-OF-ENTRY or low volume applications with  POINT-OF-USE systems for drinking and cooking water.
